Director Advait Chandan has exited Dharma Productions’ Dostana 2, starring Vikrant Massey and Lakshya, due to creative differences with the producers. The parting was amicable. Director Advait Chandan has dropped by Dharma Productions’ much-awaited sequel ‘Dostana 2’. The director was at the helm to lead the project, and reportedly spent about seven months working on its development before eventually deciding to step down.

As reported by Variety India, the split came about due to creative differences. Chandan’s vision for the film failed to match the direction the producers had in mind. However, the parting was on good terms, and there was no ill will between the two sides except a slight difference in creative outlook.

Chandan’s exit is just the latest development in a long and difficult journey for “Dostana 2”, a project that has gone through several revamps since it was first announced. The sequel to the 2008 hit ‘Dostana’ was initially unveiled in 2019 with Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor and Lakshya starring, with Colin D’Cunha lined up to make his directorial debut.
However, the project was eventually postponed.

In recent years, Dharma Productions has returned to work on a re-imagined version of the film. The revived project was said to feature Vikrant and Lakshya in the lead roles, while former beauty pageant winner Saini Shetty was reportedly under consideration for the female lead.

Advait Chandan was later roped in to direct the remake of the film and spent nearly a year working. His choice as a director has been widely appreciated in the industry, as he is known for striking a good balance between mass entertainment and emotional storytelling. ‘Loveyapa’ was his latest film in the director’s chair and before that, he had directed Aamir Khan’s film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.
