Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that India’s increasing cooperation with the United States does not undermine its long-standing relations with Russia, but he also stressed that attempts to pressure New Delhi over its relationship with Moscow will not succeed.Speaking to reporters in St. Petersburg, Putin said the United States was trying to put pressure on India over its dealings with Russia, but added that it was “useless to try to put pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” according to Reuters.Putin also said that Russia does not see any negative consequences from India’s bilateral relations with any other country, and described India as a reliable partner.He stressed that India remains one of the major economies in the world and is currently witnessing strong economic growth.
“India is among the world’s major economies and is currently showing an impressive rate of economic growth,” Putin said.The Russian President also expressed confidence that bilateral trade between India and Russia will continue to expand significantly in the coming years.He added: “I am confident that the volume of bilateral trade between Russia and India will reach $100 billion in the coming years.”He also said that India is a great and democratic nation that pursues its national interests, according to news agency PTI.
