PK Hariprasad is a strong Congress leader with a clear ideology and the party supports him, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge said on Thursday, adding that the Prime Minister will decide the portfolios while also warning of a real economic crisis as gold is being sold in the country.

Speaking to reporters, Priyank Karg said, “PK Hariprasah is a strong man in Congress. His ideology is clear, and we all stand by him. The Prime Minister will decide on the portfolios.”
He added, “The economic crisis is real. They are selling the country’s gold. People will realize this and will take to the streets.”
Meanwhile, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Wednesday appointed senior Congress leader PK Hariprasad as the new president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), after DK Shivakumar resigned after taking over as Karnataka Chief Minister.
The appointment was announced through an official order issued by Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal.
According to the notification, Hariprasad’s appointment takes effect immediately, marking a major organizational change in the Karnataka Congress after Shivakumar’s elevation to the top post in the state.
Shivakumar, who has been serving as KPCC president since 2020, played a crucial role in rebuilding the party organization in Karnataka and leading the Congress to victory in the 2023 Assembly elections.
Speaking about his elevation, Hariprasad said, I would like to express my sincere thanks to AICC Chairman @kharge who appointed me as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Chairman; To our beloved Commander Smt. Sonia Gandhi, who put her love, trust and faith in me and entrusted me with this responsibility; And to Shri @RahulGandhi, Leader of the Opposition; To AICC Secretary General @kcvenugopalmp; To AICC General Secretary @priyankagandhi and to KPCC State Officer @rssurjewala. This decision taken by the central leadership of the Congress Party is not just about giving a position to one individual. I think it is a clear message in favor of the basic principles of the Congress party – social justice, secularism, democracy, constitutionalism and empowerment of weaker sections.
Meanwhile, Shivakumar has officially announced his resignation from the post of KPCC president after taking over as Chief Minister of Karnataka.
Meanwhile, Shivakumar also announced his resignation from the post of APCC president. Earlier in the day, Shivakumar assumed office as the 34th Chief Minister of Karnataka after taking oath at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru. Congress leader G Parameshwara took oath as deputy chief minister, while 13 legislators were appointed to the cabinet.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior Congress leaders, religious leaders and prominent figures from all over the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Shivakumar on taking oath as Prime Minister and assured support from the Centre.
“Congratulations to Shri DK Shivakumar Ji on being sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka. Best wishes to him during his tenure. The Center will closely work with the Karnataka government for the welfare of the people,” he said in a post on X.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also extended his congratulations and acknowledged former Prime Minister Siddaramaiah’s contributions.
