The president of the Baltimore City Council has been ridiculed for his Hindu wife and his “Hindu” family image.
Baltimore City Council President Zeke Cohen has come under merciless criticism after he posted a family photo in which he is proud of his Hindu-Jewish family and calls them “Jewish Heinites.” Social media users commented that it is just an Indian-American family and their children are not Jewish.
“I love my mixed Jewish family. Baltimore, nothing beats being your city council president! Except being their dad,” Cohen wrote.
Reactions to the photo on X have been mostly racist and hateful.“I mean, they’re not really Jewish anymore, are they?” one wrote.Another wrote: “You mean an Indian Hindu family. These are not Jews. You know that.” “Your children are 0% Jewish,” a third user wrote, targeting children.Another wrote: “You’re Jewish, they’re Hindu. It’s important to keep this in order.”Before becoming City Council President, Cohen was councilor in District 1. He was sworn into the Baltimore City Council on December 8, 2016, where he was a member of the Education, Workforce, and Youth Committee throughout his term, including as its chair from 2016 to 2020, and on the Housing and Urban Affairs Committee and the Public Safety Committee from 2016 to 2020.
