A social media user was earlier arrested for posting content of a malicious nature against IU. Now, according to the latest reports, officials have given a tougher sentence to the person after finding that she has shown no remorse for her actions against the singer and actress.

The court handed down a strict sentence to the woman convicted of posting hateful comments about IU, Star News reported. On May 31, 2026, the Appellate Division of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced her to a suspended sentence for criminal insult, meaning she would serve a 4-month prison sentence.In addition, the court also ruled that she will remain suspended for one year and will also serve 80 hours of community service.

The sentence also included a one-year probation period.The ruling was initially limited to a fine, and the person was ordered to pay 3 million Korean won. However, her case was merged with another case. The second case also relates to separate malicious content she posted online. It was determined that her comments and posts “exceeded the level of criticism that could be considered socially acceptable.”According to the report, the comments often described her using words like “fraud” and “mentally ill.” She also targeted her agency, commenting with phrases like, “Did you bribe the judge?”She was also cited as a habitual offender, noting that she continued to post comments even after her arrest.

However, her diagnosis of intractable epilepsy was also taken into account while serving her sentence.
