More than 45 dead and about 70 injured in an explosion in an explosives storage building in Myanmar

More than 45 people were killed and about 70 others injured in an explosion at a building said to store mining explosives in northeastern Myanmar on Sunday, the Associated Press reported, citing rescue workers and local media reports. The explosion occurred at noon in Kaungtop village in Namkam town, about 3 km south of the Chinese border. The area is under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), an ethnic armed group fighting the military-led government in Myanmar. The cause of the explosion was not immediately known. However, the building was reportedly storing explosives used in mining activities.A rescue worker involved in the operation told the Associated Press that 46 bodies, including those of six children, had been recovered by Sunday evening and taken for cremation. The rescuer, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, said that 74 wounded were taken to the town hospital and that rescue efforts were continuing.Another rescuer in Namahak, who requested to remain anonymous, said that about 40 people were killed in the explosion, and that more than 100 homes near the site were damaged.
