Following the collapse of a four-storey commercial building near Saket Metro station in south Delhi’s Sidulagab area, the Delhi Municipal Corporation suspended two engineers from work on Sunday.

Aman Jain and Udesh Singh Chauhan have been placed “under suspension with immediate effect, on the ground of non-exercise of effective supervision and laxity on his part, in relation to the collapse of the property – identified as Kh.No.262, Gali No. 5, Western Marg, Saeed Al Azayeb, New Delhi on 30.05.2026,” a notification issued and signed by Deputy Commissioner, South Zone, Green Park on Sunday (May 31) said.
Aman was a junior engineer, while Chauhan was an assistant engineer of Construction Division II-South Zone.

The death toll rises to six
At least six people were killed in the building collapse, and 10 others were injured. The accident, which occurred on Saturday evening, prompted the launch of a rescue operation to extract survivors from under the rubble. As of Sunday evening, search and rescue operations are continuing in the hope of saving more people.
The people recovered from the rubble were shifted to AIIMS Trauma Center for treatment.

DFS received a call about the collapse at 7:44pm on Saturday. As previously reported by HT, the building is located in a densely populated area of Western Meadow in Saidulagap, known for its many paid guest accommodations, training centers and student mess.
The rescue operation is a multi-agency operation and is being carried out by teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services (DFS), Delhi Police, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD), Civil Defense and CATS Ambulance Service.
According to the police, rescue operations are expected to continue until every missing person is identified. The cause of the collapse is still unknown.
