Niall Horan remembers his last meeting with Liam Payne: “This means that my last memories of him were happy.”

In 2024, when news of Liam Payne’s death spread online, it shocked the entire music industry. His former One Direction bandmates were the worst affected, along with members of his family, including his son Bear.

Now, after Niall Horan has also released a song dedicated to Payne, he has started talking about the time he spent with his fellow singer and what their last meeting was like.

Speaking with The Times, the fellow One Direction singer spoke about what it was like to find out about Payne’s death and what everything was like. Not only that, the singer also recalled meeting him for the last time before his sudden death in 2024.At the time, Payne, who was 31 at the time of his death, had traveled to Argentina to catch his friend during one of his concerts there. Videos and photos of Payne playing Horan’s music were widely shared at the time. Speaking at the meeting, which he had met just weeks before the news broke, Horan recalled, “I’m happy about that, and that means my last memory of him was happy.”

At that time, he also commented on the matter when he learned of his close friend’s death.

He said he didn’t believe it at first and was in complete denial. “It’s still surreal. On the first day, I was like, ‘No, it’s not happening.'” Our friendship was a bond that had been there forever, even if we hadn’t seen each other for a while, and it was strange that one day, like the flip of a switch, it was gone.He also added that he keeps Liam alive in his memories by thinking about the times and memories they shared. “When I think about Liam’s death, I feel sad, but he makes me laugh and smile too because of the memories we had,” Horan said.

“I’ll go places and think of something stupid in a hotel or something random that makes me laugh,” he said during the interview.

Niall Horan has released a tribute song to Liam Payne

As part of his latest album, Horan also released a tribute song to his bandmate titled “End of an Era.” Speaking about how Payne would have liked the song, he said: “I think that’s his kind of song. He liked Coldplay. He liked songs like One Direction’s ‘You and I’, songs that went somewhere.”Louis Tomlinson also released a song called “Dark to Light,” which he dedicated specifically to the late singer. In a previous interview on the ‘Zach Sang Show’, Tomlinson spoke about the song and stated, “These kind of songs should be completely open to interpretation because I think they have the power to heal. So I don’t want to over-explain anything like that. People will find what they need in that kind of emotion, you know.”

Liam Payne has died at the age of 31. He reportedly fell from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2024.
