At least five people were killed and eight others injured after a four-storey building housing guest accommodation collapsed in south Delhi’s Sidulagap area near Saket Metro station on Saturday evening.
Delhi Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu called for the speedy recovery of those affected by the accident. “I am deeply saddened by the tragic incident of building collapse in Saket and the resulting injuries and loss of life. Multi-agency search and rescue operations are continuing and authorities have been instructed to ensure all necessary medical assistance and immediate relief are provided,” he said in a post on X.
Aam Aadmi Party Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj has demanded action against the officials in the matter. “This is not a coincidence, this is a blatant willful dereliction of duty by officers,” he said in a post on X. “There have been repeated written complaints about this dangerous building.”
The multi-agency rescue operation continued throughout the night, with teams pulling at least ten people from the rubble, while authorities continued search efforts amid fears that more people could be trapped under the rubble.
