Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday alleged that BJP workers attacked his convoy during a visit to West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, claiming the incident was an attempt on his life and vowing legal recourse to the Supreme Court.

“They wanted to kill me… The entire incident was caught on camera. We will definitely tell the Supreme Court about this. We will also tell the Governor about this… I will definitely move to the court…” Banerjee said.
Banerjee alleged that the authorities deliberately failed to intervene despite his security personnel informing him of the situation.
He claimed that no additional forces were deployed at the scene, indicating that higher authorities allowed the incident to continue and made no effort to prevent further violence.

“We will go to court”: Abhishek Banerjee
“This clearly shows that the way one death happened here, likewise, 2-4 more deaths must happen; only then will they get some peace. Let them do what they want. We have recorded everything. We will go to court. I will go to the Supreme Court to fight this case…”
Giving details of the alleged attack, Banerjee claimed that bricks, eggs and stones were thrown at him and his convoy. He claimed that the violence was carried out by criminals although local residents continued to welcome and support his visit. The TMC leader also claimed to have video evidence of the incident, and claimed that the criminals were stationed at a nearby community hall before the attack.

“From 11am onwards, the criminals were detained in that community hall for throwing stones. Look what happened to my glasses…they hit my eyes with bricks, and I can’t open my eyes,” he said.
“He punched me in the back, chest, arm and leg, and I was wearing a helmet, otherwise my head would have been split in half… You can make my body fall, but my resolve is strong and strong, the passion and enthusiasm are still there, and this head will not bend.”
