Paltrow expressed feelings of disgust and anger when she mentioned the breach of trust during her candid conversation with psychotherapist Esther Perel on her Goop podcast. “If I were saying my internal dialogue out loud right now, it would be really shocking,” she said, noting that her feelings must be universal despite the incident occurring so many years ago.

“I’m still really moved by the feeling, such incredibly big feelings [it]”, stated the actress.

When analyzing emotions, Beryl claimed that it is one part having someone close to you break your trust, but them acknowledging their actions is a whole other part. “The next consequence of a breach or violation of trust is when I stop trusting myself as a result,” the expert stated. Furthermore, she said that even if the person who made you doubt yourself, and whom you trust, has been absent from your life for 10 years, the hurt can linger longer and follow.

“I have lost my self-confidence,” she said. “I am constantly waiting and watching to see if others will do something to me because of you.”

When Paltrow asked if there was a way to return to trust after experiencing infidelity, Beryl replied, “Yes,” adding that this is not possible for everyone. Moreover, the actress wondered if the pain is the same for a temporary infatuation and a serious girlfriend. “For some people, a one-night stand is as painful as a 20-year affair,” Birrell said.
