Sadiq Khan urges people to join London’s biggest Eid festival

London’s iconic Trafalgar Square is set to host one of the city’s most vibrant cultural events with the return of Eid on the Square on Saturday 30 May 2026.Described as London’s largest holiday celebration, the free event will bring together thousands of people from across the capital for a day packed with live entertainment, food and family-friendly activities.The event, which was highlighted by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan on social media, is open to all and celebrates the rich diversity of London’s Muslim communities alongside people of all faiths and backgrounds.“Don’t miss the event: London’s biggest Eid celebration takes place today in Trafalgar Square,” Khan said on X (formerly Twitter).

A celebration of culture, community and Eid Al Adha

Eid in the Square marks Eid al-Adha, one of the two major Islamic holidays and the culmination of the annual Hajj to Mecca.

This year’s celebrations coincide with the final days of the broader Eid celebration period.The event highlights the multicultural nature of London’s Muslim communities, with participation from Turkish, Middle Eastern, Palestinian, Malaysian, Indonesian, North African and South Asian groups, as well as non-Muslim visitors keen to join the celebrations.

Live performances to take center stage

Visitors can look forward to a busy program of performances throughout the day.

The main stage will include performances by the London Arab Orchestra, the Turkish Society of London’s dance group, and the Khan Brothers Qawwali group.The schedule will also include live discussions, cultural performances, calls to prayer and a range of interactive activities designed to highlight the traditions and heritage of Muslim communities from around the world.

Family activities, shopping and practical workshops

A dedicated family area will offer creative activities including lantern making, headdress workshops, calligraphy and stencil art sessions.Children and families can also enjoy face painting, while live performances by Muslim Girls Fencing will give visitors the opportunity to learn basic fencing skills and get involved in the sport.

Street food from all over the world

Foodies will be spoiled for choice with the wide range of international cuisine available throughout the square. Vendors are expected to offer everything from Afghan grilled dishes and Korean fried chicken to halal German sausages, French fries and an array of desserts.Shoppers can also browse stalls featuring popular brands and community businesses, adding to the festival atmosphere.
