Arun Govil praises Ranbir Kapoor but takes back his performance
In a recent conversation with Variety India, Govil spoke about Ranbir taking on the huge responsibility of portraying Lord Rama on the big screen. While he chose to withhold his thoughts on Ranbir’s actual performance until the film’s release date, he made it clear that he has complete confidence in the actor’s abilities. “As Rama, I won’t be able to tell you anything about him, but he is a good actor, there is no doubt about that. Arun Govil explains why comparisons with Ranbir Kapoor’s Rama are inevitable
When asked about the backlash Ranbir faced after revealing the first look of the film, Govil reflected on why such comparisons are inevitable. “Maybe it is also because my performance as Lord Rama has become the touchstone. It is still alive in the hearts and minds of the people.
No one wants to see another Rama. As you know, Ramayan continues to play somewhere or the other at any given time. Even today in North and Central India, when melas, tamashas and images of Rama are sold, my face is on them.
So, for me, talking about an actor like Lord Rama’s performance does not ring true.”
Ranbir Kapoor will play the roles of Lord Rama and Lord Parshurama in the film
In an exciting revelation, Ranbir revealed that his role in the film goes beyond just portraying Lord Rama, as he will also be seen as Lord Parshurama.
Speaking to Collider at the film’s teaser launch in Los Angeles, the actor shed light on how he prepared himself to take on the challenge of playing two different avatars of Lord Vishnu. “Lord Vishnu had different avatars. Lord Rama was an avatar, and Lord Parshurama was an avatar before Lord Rama,” he explained.
Talking about his approach to the dual role, Ranbir said: “Just to have the opportunity, you know, how I was able to play Lord Rama, to also play Lord Parshurama was amazing. I think as an actor, apart from body language, I think if you deeply understand the spirituality and emotionality of the characters, I think it all starts from there. I think that’s what I did in the year leading up to shooting Ramayana, to understand who these people and characters are, what they stand for and what they stand for.” Their motives are.”
