Julie Swidler, who has served as Sony Music Group executive vice president and general counsel since 2008, is set to leave the company at the end of June, Sony announced Wednesday.

Sony and Swidler referred to the move as her “long-planned departure”. The company did not provide any details about who will be Swidler’s successor. According to the press release announcing her departure, Swidler will launch “consulting services for creativity-focused projects.”

“Julie has been a vital component of Sony Music’s senior management team for many years, and her wisdom, experience and knowledge have been the cornerstone of our company’s strategy and growth,” Rob Stringer, president of Sony Music Group, said in a statement. “She leaves us with our deepest respect and gratitude. As a friend and colleague, on a personal level, as Julie and I have been planning her passing together for some time, we will miss her at Sony Music but I know her next chapter will be equally stimulating and rewarding.”

Prior to his appointment as general counsel in 2008, Swidler served in legal roles at Arista, J Records, RCA and BMG. I started at Polygram.

“Every great adventure eventually gives way to a new one, and this feels like the right moment for me,” Swidler said in a statement. “There are few companies in the world like Sony Music that carry this amount of history and remain so relevant. Being part of that legacy has been a privilege. This journey would not have been the same without Rob Stringer’s leadership, friendship and trust, and I am grateful for all of it. I am absolutely proud of our global business and legal practice and the exceptional people in it who are truly second to none. We have always been guided by what is fair and right for artists, and that compass has never let us down.”
