The Special Intensive Review (SIR) of Delhi’s electoral rolls will begin on June 30 with door-to-door verification by booth level officials (BLO), Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar said on Wednesday.

The CEO said that all district election officials have been asked to prepare for the SIR exercise and arrangements for printing of census forms, stationery and appointment of BLOs and their supervisors have already been completed.
The CEO said help desks have been set up at district and assembly constituency levels to assist voters during the SIR. The pre-SIR exercise is already underway.
“We were able to map about 65,000 [6.5 million] Voters, covering about 42% of the area. “The pre-SIR exercise is also going on at the same time while we are preparing for the SIR,” Kumar said.
Training and printing work will continue from June 20 to 29, followed by house-to-house visits by BLOs between June 30 and July 29. The draft electoral list will be published on August 5, while claims and objections can be submitted until September 4. The final electoral list will be published on October 7.

Under the SIR, every current voter will be provided with a census form through the BLOs. Voters will be asked to fill in the details and return one copy to the BLO, while online submission of forms will also be enabled, officials said.
Voters residing in Delhi before 2002 can check their names using the 2002 electoral rolls uploaded on the ministry’s website, while those who moved to Delhi after 2002 can track the details through the Election Commission of India (ECI) portal, the CEO’s office said.
In a letter dated May 14, the IEC had directed to initiate the SIR system in Delhi under the provisions of Section 324 and the Representation of the People Act, 1950. The practice is to ensure that “no eligible citizen is excluded while no eligible person is included in the electoral roll”.
