In a post on X, Yadav questioned the performance of the state government and criticized what he described as a lack of coordination between the Chief Minister and Uttar Pradesh Power Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma.

“Agle chunav main janata BJP ko acche se dho-patakkar hamesha ke liye sukha degi (In the next elections, the public will completely crush the BJP and dry it forever). Thank God, the ‘failed PM’ of UP did not say that behind this ‘major electricity disaster’ is a conspiracy by the envoy sent by Delhi. It should be clarified whether the Power Minister is not attending the PM’s review meetings or is not invited. If he attends, the honorable person is asked to publish Photo with his hand on shoulder – The audience may feel some comfort from the ‘mutual warmth’, because the audience has never seen you together before.

The opposition raises questions about the government’s response

The Samajwadi Party president also criticized the government’s handling of public anger over the power outage. Referring to the deployment of Pradishik armed police personnel at power substations, he alleged that the BJP government was trying to protect itself from criticism instead of addressing the concerns of residents facing unrest.

“Under BJP rule, political action is being deployed in power substations, and MPs are writing letters against their government, in a cowardly attempt to escape the wrath of the public. There is no mainstream in the BJP now,” he added.

Yadav’s remarks came as the Uttar Pradesh government continued to defend power supply management and highlighted record electricity distribution figures in the state.

Energy consumption in UP jumps more than 113% in 12 years

Annual electricity consumption in Uttar Pradesh has doubled over the past 12 years, reflecting not only rising demand but also a structural shift in the state’s power sector, with an expanding consumer base and longer supply hours appearing to unlock previously unmet demand.

Data released by the Uttar Pradesh State Load Despatch Center (UPSLDC) shows an increase in annual power consumption from 76,574.6 million units (MU) in 2012-13 to 1,62,858.1 MU in 2025-26, an increase of over 113%. Average daily consumption also doubled from 209.8 million units to 445.7 million units during this period, HT reported earlier.

Yogi says UP records highest power supply ever

Amid soaring summer temperatures, Uttar Pradesh recorded its highest ever electricity supply by meeting the peak demand of 31,824 MW on May 24, the state government said on May 26.

The government claimed that this achievement put Uttar Pradesh ahead of Maharashtra, which supplied 29,463 MW during the same period, making it the highest power supply recorded by any state in the country so far.

According to officials, the record peak demand was successfully met at 10:29 pm on May 24. Earlier in 2025, the highest peak demand recorded in the state was 31,486 MW, HT reported earlier.

Energy Minister highlights record supply numbers

Meanwhile, Energy Minister AK Sharma said that Uttar Pradesh has achieved the highest level of electricity supply ever and claimed that the state is setting new standards in power distribution.

“We are providing the highest power supply in the history of Uttar Pradesh. This morning at 2:33 AM, Uttar Pradesh’s peak supply crossed 31,000 MW. Now, at 10:01 PM, breaking all previous records, our peak supply has reached 31,774 MW. It may reach 32,000 MW the same night. Believe me, this is the highest in the history of the state. It is also the highest we have broken our own record in the country.”
