Adolescence and reunion Producer Warp Films has appointed Peter Palm as managing director, calling the move “an important step in the company’s continued growth following a long period of creative and commercial success.”
Palm joined the company as Chief Commercial and Commercial Officer in 2012 and most recently assumed the role of Chief Commercial Officer. In his new role, he will oversee the company’s strategy and business operations, and continue to work closely with the senior leadership team, including CEO Mark Herbert, Chief Operating Officer and CFO Niall Schama, and Chief Creative Officer Emily Feller, “to support Warp’s continued expansion across film and television.”
The company said: “The appointment comes as Warp enters one of the most ambitious periods in its 20-year history, with a significant development slate and a renewed focus on films alongside its television production. The company is also working to build its international presence, strengthening partnerships with broadcasters, streamers and distributors across key markets, without losing its renowned creative prowess.”
Balm has been instrumental in building the financing and distribution partnerships that have allowed Warp to expand its roster and grow its global profile. “He played a key role in the period that produced some of the most talked-about British productions in recent memory, including as co-executive producer of Adolescence, “Who has won seven BAFTA Awards, eight Primetime Emmys, four Golden Globes, and numerous other accolades,” the company said.
“Peter has played a critical role in Warp’s growth over the past decade, and this appointment feels like a natural progression for both him and the company,” Herbert said. It combines true business instinct with a deep understanding of who we are creatively. Warp has always been driven by bold storytelling and amazing creative talent, but we’ve also worked hard to build a sustainable, ambitious business around that, rooted in Sheffield. Peter has been pivotal in that journey, and I’m excited to see him leading the company forward alongside the wider team.
Balm called Warp “a truly special company, and it has been a pleasure to be a part of its growth over the past 14 years.” He added: “We are entering a very exciting period: expanding our portfolio and partnerships, growing our cinematic ambitions, and continuing to support distinguished voices across television and film.”
“We have big ambitions for the future, and I’m very excited about what lies ahead,” concluded Palm, who will move to Sheffield, where Warp is based.
