Janel Parrish, Leslie David Baker and Erin Hayes lead an upcoming film centered around a kidnapping.
Production has wrapped on writer-director Alec Beukes’ black comedy Stockholm team, Hollywood Reporter I’ve learned. Barış (pretty little liars, To all the boys I’ve loved before), Leslie David Becker (The office), Erin Hayes (Children’s Hospital) leads a cast that also includes Beukes and Rizwan Manji (Schitt’s Creek) and Malia Bayles )Baskets).
Stockholm team The film revolves around six kidnapped strangers who are locked in the basement and try to communicate in the chaos. The film is described as a combination of Breakfast Club and 10 Cloverfield Lane.
Bewkes makes his directorial debut with the independent film which he also wrote and produced for Hang Six Films. Producers on the project include Bennett Cordon for Salt Cellar Films, along with Thomas Cross. Lucas Ford and Colin Oh are executive producers. Hang Six Films is handling sales for the film, which is currently in post-production after filming in Los Angeles.
“The goal was to deliver a feel-good comedy in the last place you’d ever imagine to sell the story’s message of hope and community,” Beukes says in a statement. “I wanted to show that if kidnap victims can find happiness in a dingy basement, then we superficial humans can do the same here.”
Beukes directed the short film Shut up, Jack It is scheduled to premiere next month at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival. He stars in the project alongside fellow cast members Anand Mahalingam, Linnea Bullion, Ricky Wilson, and Rahne Avant.
