The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued formal notice on the application filed by Priya Kapoor, who sought permission to access the Employees Provident Fund accounts of late businessman Sanjay Kapoor to pay school fees and educational expenses of his two children, Samira and Kiaan, with his ex-wife Karisma Kapoor.According to Republic World, the petition was heard on May 26, 2026, and seeks clarification and partial modification of the interim injunction passed by a coordination bench on April 30, which froze Sanjay Kapoor’s vast estate amid the ongoing inheritance battle.
The petition seeks to modify the April 30 order
According to court filings, Priya Kapoor requested changes to clauses (b) and (d) of paragraph 79 of the interim order. The ruling, issued on April 30, had restricted any liquidation, transfer or dissipation of Sanjay Kapoor’s personal assets and corporate properties.
However, the order reportedly gave limited scope to address underlying obligations relating to his children.Priya Kapoor has now sought express court approval to withdraw money from the late industrialist’s provident fund accounts exclusively for educational purposes related to Samira and Kian Kapoor. Her legal representatives reportedly explained before the court that the money would only be used to cover school fees and related academic expenses.
The legal battle over Sanjay Kapoor’s estate continues
The dispute over Sanjay Kapoor’s Rs 30,000-crore empire has involved several members of the Kapoor family, including Priya Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor’s children and Sanjay’s mother, Rani Kapoor.Following Sanjay Kapoor’s death in June 2025, the Supreme Court froze his domestic assets after objections were raised over the disputed 2025 will, which family members allegedly described as forged due to alleged numerical and textual discrepancies. In a parallel legal action, Rani Kapoor also sought to dissolve a family trust, accusing Priya Kapoor of using her medical weakness to control the company’s affairs. The matter is currently being mediated by former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud under the supervision of the Supreme Court of India.
