The case was registered under the title ‘In re: Alleged institutional bias and procedural discrepancies in the unnatural death of a young girl in the matrimonial home’ and was heard by a bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalia Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi. The Supreme Court took cognizance based on media reports and surrounding circumstances connected with the case.

“We feel a little hurt by some of the actions. We will ask our media friends not to listen to the statements of the victim’s family or other family. Let things move according to the law and procedures.”

“We ask the media not to record the statements of the victim’s family and reduce their pain to audio stings,” the bench said, adding that narration should be avoided.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Supreme Court that the CBI will take over the investigation and assured that administrative steps will be taken today itself.
