President Draupadi Murmu on Monday presented Padma awards to 66 laureates at the first civil inauguration ceremony of 2026. The ceremony was held at the Janatatantra Mandap in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Top award recipients included late legendary actor Dharmendra, late advertising legend Piyush Pandey and women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur.
Hema Malini, MP and wife of the late actor Dharmendra, received the award on his behalf.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were among the senior attendees at the ceremony.
For the year 2026, the President has approved the award of 131 Padma Awards, including five Padma Vibhushan Awards, 13 Padma Bhushan Awards, and 113 Padma Shri Awards.
The remaining winners will be awarded Padma Awards in the second round of the ceremony, which will be held at a later date PTI Quoted from sources.
The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.
The coveted civilian decorations are awarded in various fields – art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, commerce and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.
