The latest increase comes amid continued uncertainty in the global energy market, with no progress in US-Iran talks and the vital Strait of Hormuz remaining closed, raising concerns about disruption to crude oil supplies.
With this revision, the cumulative increase in petrol and diesel prices has risen to nearly Rs. 7.5 per liter since daily fuel price reviews resumed on May 15 after a long freeze.
The government on Saturday announced an increase of 90 paise per liter across the country on all types of fuel, making it the third such increase in eight days. The first height of $3 was announced on May 15, followed by a second increase of 90 paise on May 19.
Fuel prices have remained largely unchanged since April 2022, with the exception of a $The 2 per liter reduction was announced in March 2024 ahead of the national elections.
Petrol and diesel prices are currently at their highest level since May 2022.
During the first two and a half months of the conflict, fuel retailers kept fuel prices unchanged despite rising input costs. The government said this was done to protect consumers from inflation, while opposition parties claimed that the price review was delayed until after key elections in the state.
