Delhi is set to witness another week of heatwave as the India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the capital for the next three days.

The Meteorological Department expected strong surface winds and heat waves during the afternoon and evening hours during the next three days. The maximum temperature on Monday is expected to reach 44 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature is 30 degrees Celsius.
Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 3.4 degrees higher than the seasonal average, with the minimum temperature settling at 28.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees higher than the seasonal average.
The Meteorological Department has warned of heatwave conditions over isolated pockets of Delhi during May 24-28, with severe heatwave occurring in some pockets between May 25-27.
Several weather stations across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Sunday recorded temperatures much higher than normal, with the Ridge and Ayanagar recording the highest maximum temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius each. This was followed by Lodhi Road at 43.8°C, Palam at 43.7°C, and Safdarjung at 43.6°C. Relative humidity levels ranged between 37 percent and 18 percent.
Heatwave conditions continue in North India, red alert in UP
Next week will bring little relief to northern India, with the IMD forecast showing intense heatwave conditions over central and northwest India. Heat waves and intense heatwaves are likely to prevail over central and northwestern India during the next week, and over eastern and neighboring peninsular India during the next five days. Temperatures will see a drop only after May 29, according to IMD.
“Heatwave is very likely to occur in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh and Delhi during May 24-28, with severe heatwave occurring in some pockets during May 25-27,” the MeT department said in an advisory.
Heatwave conditions are also likely to occur in some pockets over Uttar Pradesh till May 28, with severe heatwave conditions over some parts of eastern UP till May 26, it said.
A red alert was issued for eastern Uttar Pradesh on May 24, 25 and 26, followed by two days of orange alert. Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for the west from May 24-28 for heatwave conditions. The IMD has also forecast heatwave conditions in Rajasthan, with severe heatwave conditions in some parts of western Rajasthan.
