Jammu and Kashmir announces summer vacation for schools in the summer zone of Jammu district amid rising temperatures and heatwave conditions. Primary grades have their holidays starting June 1, while grades 6 to 12 will be closed starting June 8, 2026.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced summer vacation for schools falling under the summer zone of Jammu division as many districts are still reeling from extreme heatwave conditions.
The decision, which applies to public and private schools, comes amid growing concerns about the health and safety of students attending classes during extreme weather conditions.Temperatures in parts of Jammu region, including Samba and Jammu, have crossed 43 degrees Celsius in recent days, disrupting normal life and increasing heat-related risks. Officials said that this step was taken to protect school children from prolonged exposure to excessive heat during daylight hours.
Announcement of vacation schedule for schools
Education Minister Sakina Itoo shared the announcement through a post on X and said that the revised schedule has been prepared keeping the prevailing weather conditions in mind.As per the government notification, the summer vacation for primary classes will start from June 1, 2026. For students studying in classes 6 to 12, the vacation will start from June 8, 2026.The Minister said in her statement: “Taking into account the prevailing weather conditions, the summer vacation of schools located within the summer zone in Jammu district will begin from
01.06.2026 for primary grades and 08.06.2026 for students in grades six to twelfth. I wish all students a safe and enjoyable holiday.”
The heat wave calls for precautionary measures
Officials said that the ongoing heat wave has greatly affected daily activities in several parts of Jammu region. The administration noted that continuing school operations during peak summer conditions could pose health risks to students, especially younger children.The authorities also advised parents and students to be careful during the vacation period and avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight during the afternoon hours. He urged residents to stay hydrated and follow safety precautions as high temperatures are expected to continue over the coming days.
