Police became suspicious after interrogating the baby’s father, and later learned of his role in killing the child, news agency PTI quoted police sources as saying.

The accused has been arrested and is currently being interrogated by the police, as cops suspect more family members are involved in the case, according to sources.

The defendant’s wife was drugged, and she threw her daughter’s body into the tank

The accused came under police scrutiny after his version of events raised suspicions, and he allegedly confessed to killing his 10-month-old daughter.

According to police sources cited by PTI, the accused mixed some intoxicating substances in the food or drink of his wife and eldest daughter and gave them to them before killing the infant on the night between Saturday and Sunday.

Police sources said that after killing the 10-month-old infant, the man threw the child’s body into a sewage tank, adding that a search was underway to recover the infant’s body.

The family claimed that the baby was missing from the house

The case was initially suspected to be a case of kidnapping as the baby’s family claimed that the little girl disappeared when her father went out to buy milk on Sunday morning.

The grandfather of the 10-month-old baby told reporters that when his son returned home, he could not find the baby, after which the police were called and a search operation was launched, PTI reported. The grandfather said, according to PTI: “We contacted people from the neighborhood and started searching for her, but we could not find her. We informed the police, and the search process is still continuing.”

Meanwhile, the girl’s mother, Suriya, said that when her husband returned home, he found their eldest daughter in an unconscious state. The mother said: “He woke me up calling my name and shaking me. When I regained consciousness, I found that even my eldest daughter was unconscious. We woke her up as well, and then we realized that our youngest daughter was missing, but we had no idea where she was,” adding that she did not leave the house and did not know who had taken her child.

An official said the incident sparked panic in Delhi’s Mukundpur area, and police said efforts were underway to trace the child. Crime squads and local police were deployed.
