Jofra Archer has revealed how a candid message from Rajasthan Royals’ coaching staff helped change their bowling after the Englishman starred in RR’s crucial 30-run win over Mumbai Indians. Archer produced a stunning all-rounder at the Wankhede Stadium, smashing 32 off just 15 balls before returning impressive figures of 3 for 17 to help Rajasthan Royals secure the final berth in the IPL 2026 playoffs.
Despite the match-winning performance, Archer insisted that he does not believe this has been his best season in the IPL. “It came off accidentally,” Archer joked about his gold chain that appeared during the celebrations. “I always try to bring it back.” “Don’t think this is my best year, I’ve thrown the ball a little bit better than this. Every time you take the ball, you just try to throw the ball in good spots. Some days you won’t get your reward. Glad we got the reward on the day we needed to win.” RR then revealed the key tactical advice they received after the opening matches of the season. “The coach’s instructions – after the first two games I was trying to bowl slower balls. He said, ‘I don’t care what you do, I don’t want any more speed from you.’ I’m just listening to the coach now.” According to Archer, sticking to the high pace helped simplify his plans. “Your margin for error is a little larger when you’re going fast. Sometimes you have to negotiate some edges, but most of the time it’s the safest option.”
This approach resulted in Mumbai Indians being completely dismantled early in the chase. Archer first removed Rohit Sharma for a duck with a powerful knock before also dismissing Nauman Dhir. He later returned to bring back Hardik Pandya at a critical moment. Archer also admitted that he was surprised by his promotion to the batting order after RR suffered a wobble in the middle order. “I didn’t expect to hit so early. Because of the collision, I could barely hit.
When the coach asked to put on pads, I was surprised. “I’m glad I was able to contribute.” His explosive cameo side by side

He helped RR add 73 runs in the last five overs and push the total past 200. “Well, I classify myself as an all-rounder,” said Archer with a smile after contributing in both departments. Late in the match, Archer also briefly worried RR fans after slipping awkwardly during the play. When asked about his fitness after the match, the fast bowler was quick to reassure everyone. “I’m very good now, Touchwood.”
