The Earth has just completed its rotation, and Stephen Colbert is back on television to host a new show. After bidding farewell to “The Late Show,” the comedian will host Michigan’s hour-long TV show “Only in Monroe” on May 22, 2026.

When Stephen Colbert teased his return
Although the official announcement has not been made, Colbert teased his appearance on public television during his final words on the CBS show. “Technically, our first show was in July of 2015 from a public access station in Monroe, Michigan, to an audience of 12 people,” he said, before noting that would be what viewers would likely see over the next couple of days.

In a simple, low-budget show, Colbert was joined by guests from Michigan, including music director Jack White and guest Jeff Daniels. Both Eminem and Steve Buscemi joined in via video appearances, while he also FaceTimed with his late-night successor, Byron Allen. “It’s been an excruciating 23 hours without being on TV, so I’m grateful that I was able to be here at Monroe Community Media before Paramount acquired it as well,” he said during the broadcast at 11:35 p.m. local time on Friday.

With White and Daniels in the studio for the show, Eminem appeared for a short cameo, with Colbert taking everyone outside to a dumpster to burn the remains of the no longer used “Only in Monroe” set. The host claimed that he needed permission from Marshall, so he asked him, “Marshall, are you okay if we light this?” “Steven, Marshall, here,” Eminem, also known as Marshall Mathers, said in the video. “Marshall, are you okay if we light this? Steven Marshall, here.”
“It’s pretty clear you’re going to burn that mother, bro,” he said in the interaction between the two.
