Tulsi Gabbard says her husband has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
Chatter that Tulsi Gabbard was on her way out dominated Washington for days, as the Director of National Intelligence was missing in action for weeks, when the US attacked Iran. Gabbard’s deputy, Joe Kent, resigned from his position in March, making Gabbard’s imminent exit only a matter of time.
On Friday, the Director of National Intelligence submitted her resignation and did not mention anything about her “disagreement” regarding the Iran war. Gabbard said her husband was recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, forcing her to step down from her role.“Unfortunately, I must tender my resignation, effective June 30, 2026,” she wrote. “My husband Abraham was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer.”
Tulsi Gabbard’s resignation letter said: “Abraham has been my rock throughout our eleven years of marriage – standing steadfast during my deployment to East Africa on a joint special operations mission, multiple political campaigns, and now serving in this role. His strength and love have sustained me through every challenge. I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this battle alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position.”
“Although we have made significant progress in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence — promoting unprecedented transparency and restoring integrity to the Intelligence Community — I recognize that there is still important work to do. I am fully committed to ensuring a smooth and comprehensive transition over the coming weeks so that you and the tour team experience no interruption in leadership or momentum,” she wrote.
