Kohima, Amid concerns over the prevailing law and order situation in a neighboring state and the possibility of spillover of unrest into Nagaland, the state police has urged citizens to maintain peace, communal harmony and remain vigilant.

Nagaland Director General of Police Robin Sharma appealed to people to act responsibly and refrain from sharing or forwarding any information, rumours, or provocative content on social media that could create panic, misunderstanding or communal tension.
In an appeal issued today, Friday, the police warned against the spread of false and misleading narratives through social media, noting that in the age of artificial content, creating and circulating fake information has become easier and more dangerous.
This warning came amid search operations being conducted in Kangpokpi district in Manipur to rescue those still being held hostage by armed groups.
31 of about 38 people belonging to the Kuki and Naga communities, who were detained by armed groups in Manipur’s Kangpokpi and Senapati districts, on May 14 and 15, were released. These people were taken to undisclosed locations after suspected gunmen shot three church leaders and wounded four others in Kangbukpi on May 13, while a civilian was killed and his wife wounded in Noni district in the neighboring state.
Citizens have also been urged not to react emotionally to developments outside Nagaland and avoid being influenced by rumors or provocative narratives circulating online.
Nagaland Police confirmed that the situation is being closely monitored and all necessary measures are being taken to maintain law and order in the state.
He stressed that public cooperation remains essential to ensure continued peace and stability.
Citizens have been advised to exercise utmost caution while consuming or sharing online content, especially material that may disturb ethnic and community relations in the state, the Nagaland Police statement said.
The police also warned that individuals who intentionally spread fake news, rumours, or inflammatory content through social media or other platforms will face legal action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, Information Technology Act and other applicable laws.
The warning also called on the public to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious individuals or activities trying to disturb the prevailing social harmony and peaceful coexistence among communities in Nagaland.
