With the final season of ‘The Boys’ premiering just 2-3 days ago, fans have been wondering what the creators have in store next. The franchise, other than the main show, which was inspired by the comic books created by Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson, has also had some spin-off elements.
There have also been reports of “The Boys: Mexico” being a solid project in development. However, it has been a while since there has been any update. Whether that happens or not, here’s what we know so far about “The Boys: Mexico.”
What is “The Boys: Mexico”
The spin-off project was announced in 2023 as part of the “The Boys” universe. This isn’t the only spin-off released, as “Vought Rising”, which will serve as a prequel to the entire premise of the show, will also be released soon as well.Entertainment Weekly reported that even now, although it has been nearly three years since it was announced, it is still in the development phase, and there is no confirmed report on when it will be officially released in the coming years. What we know so far about the project is the fact that it’s being led by Gareth Dunnett Alcocer, a popular writer best known for his work on DC’s “Blue Beetle.” Filming will reportedly take place in different areas of Mexico, with a mostly Mexican cast.
Mexican stars Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are also linked to the upcoming series. It was reported that the two were under consideration to join the cast, but later changed their plans and will be involved in the behind-the-scenes work of the upcoming show. Meanwhile, “Vougt Rising” is scheduled to be released sometime next year.Eric Kripke confirmed that the famous studios backing the entire series have officially seen the first draft of the script. “They’ve just delivered a draft of the pilot to Amazon,” he said. “Amazon seems to really like it and it seems to be making all the right noises. They’ve given some feedback, so we’ll be incorporating that feedback.” Gareth [Dunnet-Alcocer]who is the writer, very smart and good.
