'Otherwise they'll be spoiled': Sam Levinson warns 'Euphoria' fans not to watch final episodes as soon as they drop

Sam Levinson has warned Euphoria fans not to delay watching the final two episodes of Season 3, saying major spoilers will spread quickly once they arrive. The creator of the HBO drama spoke Wednesday night during an American Cinematheque screening at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica, where he also described the new season as “trying our best” and praising the finale for reaching the level of emotion he could only hope for.

Spoiler warning for the ending of Euphoria season 3

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levinson joined director Jason Reitman for a screening and conversation related to the final episode of “Euphoria.” The American Cinematheque hosted a double feature for the sixth episode of the third season, “Stand Still and See,” and “Dirty Harry,” which Levinson described as an inspiration for the episode.Levinson asked fans to watch episodes seven and eight as soon as they are available within the next ten days.“If you don’t watch episodes seven and eight live – the moment they come out – they will be spoiled,” he said. “There are some big things happening.”Reitman and Levinson discussed Episode 6 after watching it with the audience. Levinson said the episode takes on more weight because of the direction the story is going next.“Knowing where things are going at seven and eight, I think this is our best season,” Levinson said.

He added that the ending carries a special emotional power.“I think episode eight in particular reaches a level of excitement that I could only have dreamed of when I was first working on this show,” he said.

Sam Levinson praises Hans Zimmer and Jason Reitman

Levinson also spoke about the season’s use of faith, religious imagery, and symbolism. He said the visual language of religion formed parts of the episode.“I think there’s a lot to learn from religion, and also on a purely graphic level in terms of cinematography and imagery, it’s full of these inspiring mythological images.”The conversation also turned to Hans Zimmer, who became the season’s sole composer after Labrinth’s widely publicized exit. Zimmer and Labrinth are first set to work on the project together.“Hans Zimmer was a blessing because we needed about four and a half hours of music for the season and what he was able to do in such a cohesive way across several different genres,” Levinson said. “It’s amazing and I’m so proud of him.”Levinson also recalls showing Reiman a rough cut of the “Euphoria” pilot. He said Reitman paused him repeatedly, criticized the first 12 minutes, and then told him, “Well, the problem is only the first 12 minutes. The rest is great.”
