“Mita reached out to interview me the same week...”: US founder asks what happened to employee retention

An American businessman claimed that Meta approached him for a role in the same week that Meta fired 8,000 employees.

American businessman, Zach Wilson, claimed on the

Wilson said he was sure at least one of those 8,000 people had the qualities of the role he was contacted for, but the company had not retained anyone.“Why would companies expect us to be loyal to them if they won’t even try to keep us when they have hundreds of billions of dollars? It would be financially cheaper for them to keep one of those 8,000 people. And it would be cheaper emotionally for the people who were let go, too,” Wilson wrote in his now-viral post.“How do these big tech companies expect people to put their blood, sweat and tears into work while also saying, ‘Yes, we will cut you any minute.’ I don’t know. The culture around AI and layoffs has become incredibly toxic.”

Meta announced the mass layoffs with an email stating that the headcount reduction was part of an “ongoing effort to run the company more efficiently” and thanked them for their contributions to Meta.

Notices began going out to roughly 10% of Meta’s 78,000 employees on Wednesday, informing them that they would be laid off from their jobs.“As previously shared, we have decided to reduce headcount as part of our ongoing efforts to run the company more efficiently and to allow us to offset other investments we are making. Unfortunately, your role has been eliminated as part of today’s reorganization. Before we share additional details, we want to thank you for everything you have contributed to Meta. We appreciate the important role you have played in the company’s journey,” the post said before delving into the details of notice period, furloughs, severance, etc.
