The creative minds behind the beloved Americana social media account at Brand Memes are moving from Glendale to Hollywood.
The @americanaatbrandmemes page has become a favorite among Angelenos, featuring frequently viral local jokes and memes about the outdoor mall owned by Rick Caruso. The account has over 100,000 followers on Instagram and over 80,000 on X, and the creators behind it have maintained anonymity throughout.
Now the writers of the account are taking their talents to the big screen, writing a heist comedy called Jay Pages Auto Mart. The film is based on true events and follows the story of NIMI.Global, a group of cryptocurrency developers and artists who in 2021 launched Jay Pegs Auto Mart, a site that sells NFTs of 2007 Kia Sedona minivans. The team sold $3 million worth of NFTs in record time, but the funds were stolen almost immediately — prompting them to launch a DIY investigation to reclaim their fortune before their minivan empire fades away.
“We’re so excited to be a part of this hilarious project. This is a story about the NIMI.Global team taking the meme too far, and this is a story we know all too well,” the Americana team at Brand Memes said in a statement. “We can’t wait to officially join the small group of people in Los Angeles who call themselves screenwriters!”
The film is directed by Christopher Whale in his feature film debut, and is produced by The Boldest – a media company founded by entrepreneur Saskia Clements – as well as Forced Perspective, a production company founded by Emmy Award-winning casting director Jazzy Collins.
“Anyone who cares about comedy knows that the Americana on the Brand Memes team has an instinct for the cultural moment that you simply can’t manufacture,” Collins said. “Bringing this voice to the feature film space for the first time is exactly what this partnership was built to do, and Christopher’s vision for how this story will come to life on screen is a film we can’t wait to see.”
@americanaatbrandmemes is repped by Zach Friedman at Omnipop and WME, and Forced Perspective is repped by Michael Peters at RAMO.
