The body of 29-year-old Punjabi singer and makeup artist Inder Kaur, popularly known as Yashinder Kaur, has been recovered from the Nilo Canal in Punjab. This confirmation comes almost a week after she was reported missing following an alleged kidnapping in Ludhiana.
The discovery of her remains on the morning of May 19 prompted a police investigation into what the family alleges was a “murder” prompted by a rejected marriage proposal.
Who is Yashinder Kaur?
According to a News 18 report, Inder Kaur, born in 1997, was a Punjab-based singer and make-up artist with a growing footprint in the Punjabi music industry. She has released numerous songs over the years, including ‘Afghan Jatti’, ‘Sohna Lagda’, ‘Laanedaarni’, ‘Desi Sirre De’, ‘Sone Di Wang’, ‘Kisaan Anthem’, ‘Jija’, ‘Rich Standard’, ‘Aakad’ and ‘Kado Ti Milegi’, among others.
Her live performances and social media presence earned her a regional following of over 124,000 on Instagram at the time of her death.

According to the report, Inder Kaur has been missing since May 13, according to PTC Punjab. Her body was recovered around 11am on Tuesday, May 19 from Nilo Canal. Her family identified the body at the site. The authorities then sent the remains to the Civil Hospital in Samralla for post-mortem examination and completion of legal procedures.
The singer’s brother, Jotinder Singh, lodged a police complaint over her disappearance, leading to the registration of an FIR on May 15 against Moga-based Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sukha, and his accomplice Karamjeet Singh. According to the complaint, Inder Kaur went out on the evening of May 13 to buy groceries in her Ford Figo and never returned. Repeated calls were not answered, prompting the family to search for her before heading to the police.The family alleged that Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Bhalur village in Moga district, sought to marry Inder Kaur, but she rejected the offer. They claim that she was kidnapped at gunpoint and subsequently killed because of this personal enmity. According to the ABP report, the complainant alleged that the main accused had previously fled to Canada and had not returned to Punjab until shortly before the incident.The police confirmed that the investigation is continuing and that further legal measures will be taken based on the results of the investigation.
