The husband of a 33-year-old woman found dead in her matrimonial home in Bhopal allegedly questioned the paternity of her unborn child before her death, according to screenshots of chats shared by the victim’s family.

The woman, originally from Noida, died last week in Suspicion of a case of harassment and incitement related to dowry. In letters she sent to her mother before she committed suicide, the woman said that her husband accused her of marital infidelity after she wanted to abort her pregnancy.

I don’t think so, so that’s what you want (He is asking me whose child I was having),” she told her mother via a WhatsApp text message seen by HT.

Schizophrenia and miscarriage claims

woman She married her husband, a Bhopal-based lawyer, in December 2025 after meeting him through a dating app in 2024. Less than six months later, she was found hanged at her in-laws’ house in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12.

Her family now alleges that she was subjected to dowry-related harassment, mental cruelty and assault. They demand a comprehensive investigation.

Her mother-in-law, a retired judge, denied any wrongdoing and claimed the woman was undergoing treatment for schizophrenia, a mental disorder. I took Her mother-in-law claimed marijuana was used during her pregnancy, and she also miscarried her child before her death.

Murder accusations

The victim’s family accused the husband and his mother of murder and claimed that she was physically assaulted before the evidence was destroyed. The family described the case as “questionable” and demanded a second post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi. They claimed that the evidence did not match the results of the first autopsy conducted in Bhopal.

“Why should we hand over the body when the case is questionable? The autopsy report and evidence do not match,” the woman’s father said while protesting outside Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s residence on Sunday.

The family also alleged lapses in the investigation and demanded that legal proceedings be transferred outside Madhya Pradesh. They cited concerns that the influence of the accused’s family might influence the investigation. The woman’s father said the family had “lost hope for justice.”

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is examining medical records, digital conversations and data from both sides as the investigation continues. Her mother-in-law was granted anticipatory bail while the husband absconded.

The victim’s father accuses his in-laws

The deceased’s father accused his daughter’s mother-in-law of filing defamatory claims against her after her death. He told the media on Tuesday that his daughter died under suspicious circumstances.

He said the accused family was trying to save themselves by making “various types of allegations” because the victim was no longer alive to defend herself.

The father claimed that his daughter was killed inside her in-laws’ home, and said that the family should answer for her death in court instead of making public accusations. He also described it as “shameful” for a former judge to make such allegations against a “dynamic, career-oriented and educated” woman who became part of her family after marriage.

Rejecting the allegations of schizophrenia, he said there was nothing wrong with his daughter and accused her in-laws of ruining the life of the woman who, according to him, had a bright future ahead.

Chats reveal emotional breakdown

In letters to her mother and friends, the woman repeatedly described feeling trapped and emotionally distressed.

CCTV shows the aftermath of death

previously, CCTV footage, also accessed by HT, showed the woman climbing the stairs inside her in-laws’ house shortly before the incident. In another video, a man, apparently her husband, is seen attempting CPR on her twice after she is found unresponsive.

The man was later seen carrying her downstairs with the help of two other men, while the victim’s mother-in-law appeared briefly in the frame and moved to another room.
