The Delhi High Court on Monday granted interim bail till June 2 to Baramulla Member of Parliament Abdul Rashid Sheikh, popularly known as Engineer Rasheed, in a terror financing case following the death of his father.

A bench of Justices Prathibha M Singh and Madhu Jain allowed interim relief to enable Rasheed to attend the burial, perform customary last rites and perform other bereavement-related ceremonies.
The court also recorded that National Investigation Agency lawyer Akshay Malik verified his father’s death during the intervening night of May 17 and 18.
In its seven-page order, the court ordered that Rashid remain accompanied by at least two plainclothes police officers for the duration of his temporary bail.

“The said police officials shall accompany him from the beginning of the journey from the prison in question till the time of his return from Srinagar… For the purposes of customary rights, the appellant shall be permitted to visit the burial ground or any other place of worship. Apart from the aforesaid places, the appellant shall not move to any other place,” the court said in its order.
Rashid has been in detention for more than six years since his arrest in 2019 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The NIA accused him of being part of a conspiracy involving illicit funding and terrorist organizations aimed at fueling separatist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
