India on Sunday expressed deep concern over the drone strike that targeted the Barakah nuclear power plant in the UAE, describing the attack as “unacceptable” and warning that it represents a dangerous escalation in the region. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged all parties to exercise restraint and return to dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further tensions.

“India is deeply concerned about the attack on the Barakah nuclear facility in the UAE. Such actions are unacceptable and represent a dangerous escalation. We urgently call for restraint and a return to dialogue and diplomacy,” the MEA statement said, according to ANI.

The reaction came after a drone strike caused a fire near the Barakah facility in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi. According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the fire broke out in an electric generator located outside the inner perimeter of the station. Authorities said there were no casualties and that radiation levels were not affected.

The attack sparked international condemnation. Saudi Arabia described this as a serious threat to regional stability, while the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, said that any military activity that endangers nuclear safety is unacceptable.

The UAE says it is investigating the source of the drone strike

Emirati officials said that an investigation is underway to determine the source of the strike, stressing that the state reserves the right to respond to such “terrorist attacks.” A diplomatic advisor to the UAE president described the incident as a dangerous escalation, regardless of whether it was carried out directly by the “main perpetrator” or through proxy groups.

The UAE Ministry of Defense said that two additional drones were successfully intercepted, adding that the two drones were launched from the “western border,” without providing further details.

Drones were also intercepted in Saudi Arabia

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia said the three drones it intercepted entered through Iraqi airspace. Riyadh warned that it would take all necessary operational measures against any attempt to violate its sovereignty or threaten its security.
