Nine people, including a woman, have been arrested on charges of kidnapping a man and subjecting him to torture in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district, police said on Sunday.

They said the incident took place on Saturday in Jagwana village under Jijal Police Station area and was allegedly linked to an ongoing dispute.
According to the police, a marriage between a woman and a man from the village of Al-Bireh ended in divorce, after which she lived in her parents’ house. About five months ago, the victim, named Jitu (21 years old), married the woman.
The woman’s former in-laws allegedly objected to the marriage, claiming that the issue had not been settled according to societal norms, and that the dispute was ongoing.
Subsequently, on Saturday, Jitu was allegedly kidnapped, held captive, and assaulted by the woman’s former relatives. Police said he was forced to wear a wreath of shoes and slippers and was forced to drink urine.
A video clip of the incident later appeared on social media, sparking anger in the area.
After the video went viral, Jeetu’s family staged a protest at Jigal police station, alleging police delay in their work.
Rural Circle Officer Ramchandra Chaudhary reached the spot and assured the family of immediate action. A case was registered on Saturday evening and teams were formed to track down the accused.
Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Agarwala said that nine accused, including a woman, were arrested and the vehicles used in the crime were confiscated.
The police added that efforts are underway to arrest the other escaping accused.
