Human skeletal remains, including a skull, suspected to be that of a woman, were discovered in and around a lake on the outskirts of the city, police said on Saturday.

They said the matter came to light after herdsmen discovered the remains near the lake in Mogalur near Sarjapur while grazing cattle in the area and informed the police.
During the inspection, investigators found bones scattered on the dry lake bed and nearby areas, a senior police officer said, adding that there was suspicion that the remains were at least three months old.
Police suspect that the victim may have drowned in the lake earlier, with skeletal remains emerging after the water level dropped significantly over the summer.
Officials also suspect that stray dogs may have dragged some of the remains into the surrounding areas after the lake dried up further.
With pieces of the sari recovered from the site, police suspect that it may belong to a woman.
Forensic experts and a team of crime scene officers visited the site and collected skeletal remains and other evidence for examination.
The police officer said that a case has been registered and the remains have been sent along with other evidence for forensic analysis.
He added that the identity of the deceased and the exact cause of death have not yet been determined.
