Calgary police are searching for the fifth suspect, Gagandeep Singh, and releasing his photo.
A man was kidnapped but he was not the target. The kidnappers took the man to the house of his friend, who was the real target. The first man was just a bait to get the second man out of his house, which did not happen.
The failed kidnapping and extortion attempt ended when the first man was released and the cops were called and all the drama that happened in Calgary, Canada astounded the cops because they had never seen such an elaborate scheme before. They added that the kidnappers, who were targeted, were all from the South Asian community in the city.Four men were arrested and a fifth man was charged. The accident occurred on May 6.The suspects assaulted the first man and threatened him at gunpoint to kidnap him from an Edmonton residence between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.
They then drove to Calgary to the next victim’s home where additional suspects were waiting.The kidnappers asked the first man to call the second man, who was their intended target. He refused and police said he was assaulted again.The second man and his wife tried to leave their home, fearing for their lives, but the suspects threatened them with a firearm. They went back inside and called the police.The suspects brought the first man back the next morning near his home.
He also called the police.Calgary Police Chief Jeff Bell said the man suffered minor injuries, but “it was clearly a very traumatic situation for him and it will take some time for him to recover mentally and physically.”Police arrested two men during a traffic stop on the night of the alleged kidnapping, and arrested two more on May 12.
None of the suspects are Canadian
Although all of the suspects are from Calgary, none of them are Canadian.
Daksh Gautam (25 years old), Taranveer Singh (24 years old), Pardeep Singh (24 years old) and Akashdeep Singh (18 years old) face charges of kidnapping with a firearm, unlawful confinement, assault and assault with a weapon.Police are searching for 29-year-old Gagandeep Singh, also from Calgary, who is wanted on arrest warrants on charges of kidnapping with a firearm, assault with a weapon, assault and unlawful confinement. Police say he has a tattoo of a woman on his right forearm and a blue and red eagle on his left forearm.Their immigration statuses varied and included expired work visas or asylum seeker status. A specially manufactured firearm, sometimes called a “ghost gun,” was seized as part of the investigation.Bell said it’s the first time Calgary police have seen an alleged kidnapping linked to extortion like this. “This is a significant escalation in the violent extortion incidents we have seen in Calgary to date,” he said.
