Salman Khan may be one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, but the actor says the first luxury item he ever bought after entering films was for his father, veteran writer Salim Khan. To buy it, he had to borrow money. In a recent conversation with Variety India, Salman mentioned that he took a loan to buy a Rolex watch for his father at a time when he was barely starting to earn money.
“I didn’t have the money for that.”
Sharing the story behind the expensive gift, Salman revealed that he was only able to arrange a portion of the amount himself and borrowed the remaining money.“The first expensive thing I bought was a Rolex watch for my parents. When I got the watch, I didn’t have the money to buy it, but I loved it for my parents.”“At that time, the cost was around nine thousand rupees. I had four, and the rest I took as a loan.”However, the gesture did not immediately impress Salim Khan, who questioned Salman’s lavish spending early in his career.“When I gave it to my father, he said, ‘You haven’t started working properly yet, starting to do all these things. Do you consider yourself a king?”Salman added that although his father was initially unhappy, he eventually became enamored with the watch, even describing it as a “piece of jewellery”.
Years later, the same Rolex found its way back to Salman.“When I started wearing watches, he gave me this watch,” the actor said.
Salman Khan says he does not have a luxury watch collection
The actor also addressed the rumors surrounding his supposed collection of luxury watches and insisted that most of the watches people see him wearing actually belong to friends.“I stopped wearing watches for the last 26 to 28 years of my life. Now, if you see me wearing a watch, it’s not always mine.
They belong to friends.“I take them to try them on, wear them, and then come back. I only have one Rolex. The rest of the stuff belongs to my friends.”
