According to Thai media reports, the accident occurred in the late afternoon near the airport railway station in the central part of the city. Bangkok’s emergency services agency, Erawan Medical Centre, confirmed the death toll and said several injured were taken for treatment.
All the bodies recovered were found inside the bus, Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Thailand’s deputy transport minister, told reporters at the scene.
He added that the authorities are still trying to determine the number of passengers who were riding in the car at the time of the accident.When asked about reports that the bus may have stopped on railway tracks and whether the crossing barriers had failed to lower properly, Serepong said the circumstances surrounding the accident were still under investigation.Video clips circulated on social media showed several vehicles parked at the railway crossing moments before the collision.
The freight train was seen colliding with an orange public bus, dragging nearby vehicles along the tracks. The bus later caught fire after the collision.Some footage also showed motorcycles and passengers being thrown onto the road after the collision. Later videos from the scene showed rescue personnel entering the charred remains of the bus after firefighters were able to control the flames.
