The 76-year-old compared the critical moments in his life, which included the deaths of his wife, Nancy Dolman, and his daughter, Katherine Short.

Reflecting on the last minutes he spent with his wife and daughter, Short revealed that they said similar words during their last breaths. “Martin, let me go,” Short recalled the expression of Dolman, who died in 2010 at age 58 of ovarian cancer. “Katherine would say, ‘Daddy, let me go,’” his daughter, who died by suicide at 42, recalled during an interview with The New York Times.

Discussing his new documentary, he said, “I don’t see any difference between mental illness as an illness and cancer as a disease. In some cases, both are fatal. In some cases, both are survivable.”
