A shopkeeper was shot dead during a power outage in Bihar’s Patna district, police said on Thursday, adding that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.

According to police officials, the deceased has been identified as Pintu Kumar, a local spice trader. The incident occurred late at night when unknown assailants shot him during a power outage in the area.

ASP Raj Kishore Singh said that the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene and the exact details regarding the number of bullet wounds would be confirmed after an autopsy.

“A spice shop owner named Pintu Kumar was reportedly shot dead during a power outage. The incident is under investigation… The exact number of bullets that hit him will be confirmed after an autopsy. According to reports, he died on the spot,” Singh told ANI.

Police teams arrived at the scene immediately after receiving information about the shooting incident and began the investigation. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination.

Forensic teams were deployed to the crime scene to collect evidence and examine the circumstances surrounding the killing, officials said.

More details are awaited.

In a separate development in Bihar, three accused wanted in multiple murder cases were arrested after a gun battle with police in Behta district on Wednesday.

According to Kartikeya Kumar Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), the accused have been identified as Avdesh Sahu alias Vidishya, Pappu Rai and Deepak Kumar. Police said the three were planning another major crime in the area when they were tracked down and arrested.

During a subsequent operation to recover the hidden weapons, two of the accused allegedly opened fire on the police team, leading to retaliatory firing. Two of the defendants were injured by gunshots to their legs, while two police officers were slightly injured during the exchange of gunfire.

Police said that weapons were found from the possession of the accused also wanted in the Anjali Singh murder case. Further investigations are underway. (that I)
