Family members of a 17-year-old student who allegedly committed suicide and activists of Hindu organizations staged a protest in Tonk on Friday, demanding the arrest of those accused of abetting the suicide of a boy by pressuring him for religious conversion.

The protesters gathered under the banner of Sarv Hindu Samaj at Ghantgarh Chowk, raised slogans, burned tires and staged a demonstration, disrupting traffic in the area.

The Class XII student was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his home on Thursday morning. He had been living with his mother and younger brother in Tonk for the past five years in rented accommodation.

His mother claimed that a Muslim girl forced him and his family members to convert to Islam, and he committed suicide under pressure.

She claimed in her complaint that her son was suffering from psychological pressure due to a love relationship with the girl who was forcing him to convert to Islam.

The demonstrators demanded the immediate arrest of the accused, a fair investigation, and strict measures in the case. They also demanded compensation for the family and a government job for a family member.

Tonk SDM Hukmichand reached the protest site and held talks with family members and representatives of Hindu organisations. He assured them that their demands would be submitted to higher authorities and appropriate action would be taken.

Kotwali Police Station SHO Bhanwar Lal said that a case has been registered against eight accused including the girl, her parents, the school teacher and others.

He added that no one has been arrested and the matter is under investigation.
