A teacher working at a private school in west Delhi’s Janakpuri area has been arrested in connection with the rape of a three-year-old girl by a 57-year-old guard, police said on Thursday.

The teacher was produced before the court and remanded in police custody for one day, after which the policemen started interrogating her.
“For the purpose of investigation, the police requested the teacher to be remanded for two days. After hearing the arguments, the court granted one-day remand. Our teams have already started interrogating the teacher,” news agency PTI quoted the officer as saying.
The girl’s mother had claimed that a teacher was also involved in the case, and claimed that her family had to wait for several hours at the police station.
What was the incident?
A woman filed a complaint on May 1 at Janakpuri police station, alleging that her daughter was sexually assaulted during school hours on April 30, her second day after admission.
The child reportedly complained of pain after returning home from school, and when asked, her mother said that her caretaker took her to an isolated area inside the building where she was sexually assaulted, PTI reported.
Following the woman’s complaint, the police registered an FIR under Section 64(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
The caretaker was detained and later granted bail
The caretaker was detained after the child identified him on May 1 and was sent to judicial custody. However, the city court released him on bail on May 7. The police said they would file an appeal against the bail order in the Supreme Court.
The police also denied the allegations of long waiting made by the child’s mother, saying that the investigation was being conducted in a fair manner. They added that several pieces of evidence have already been seized, including CCTV footage from the school and digital video recorders.
The Western District officers also said that the case was handled professionally by a team of police officers in Janakpuri, adding that they took swift action against the main accused.
Meanwhile, Saurabh Bharadwaj, president of the Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi unit, staged a protest outside Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, demanding action against police officers accused of intimidating the child’s family. Women party councilors were also part of the protest.
