The TARDIS is scheduled to land at a new location in a few weeks.
AMC+ held the streaming rights for most of the 21st century Doctor Who. Thirteen seasons of the series, spanning from the ninth through thirteenth seasons of Doctors (2005-22), will be available on the streamer starting June 11.
The AMC+ acquisition is a homecoming for Doctor Who. BBC America, which like AMC+ is part of AMC Networks, was the series’ US home from 2009 to 2022 (the Sci Fi Channel, Syfy’s predecessor, had its first few seasons).
“Doctor Who “Reinforces AMC+’s position as a destination for premium genre storytelling – curated franchises defined by distinct worlds, passionate fanbases and lasting cultural impact,” said Courtney Tomasma, Executive Vice President of Linear and Streaming Products at AMC Global Media. “We are thrilled to welcome Whoniverse to our home for fans, giving longtime fans a reason to return while inviting new audiences to discover one of television’s most beloved franchises.”
The acquisition does not include the most recent two seasons of Doctor WhoProduced by the BBC in association with Disney. These seasons, starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, remain on Disney+ in the US.
The 150-plus episodes will feature the Time Lord played by Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker. Doctor Who will join the AMC+ lineup, which includes walking dead universe; Anne Rice Interview with the Vampire/Vampire Lestat, The Witches of Mayfair and Talamasca: Secret Order; which received critical acclaim Dark winds; And previous AMC Networks series such as Mad Men, Orphan Black and preacher.
