Chief Minister Vijay on Thursday announced a 2 per cent increase in the condolence allowance (DA) for Tamil Nadu government employees and teachers.

With the review, the DA has been increased from 58 per cent to 60 per cent with effect from January 1, 2026, according to an official statement.
The increase will result in an additional annual expenditure of $1,230 crores to the state government.
The Prime Minister’s Office announced the decision on social media.
“Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru. S. Joseph Vijay announces that dearness allowance, which is currently 58 per cent for government officials and teachers, will be increased to 60 per cent with effect from 01.01.2026,” she wrote.
The statement stated that the government will provide the additional funds required to increase the unemployment rate, underscoring its commitment to the welfare of government employees, teachers, retirees and family retirees.
He added that Vijay pledged to introduce and implement various welfare schemes for the people, noting that government employees and teachers play a key role in framing such initiatives and implementing them effectively.

“Government of the Common People”: Vijay
Vijay stated that his administration would be a “government of the common people” which would ensure “social justice, equality of opportunity and secularism”.
The government also stated that it will continue to disburse monthly eligibility assistance $1000 to the beneficiaries to ensure that there is no disruption until the new government raises the amount to what it promised $2500.
Vijay chaired a meeting with the Finance Minister and senior Secretariat officials to ensure that… $Rs 1,000 assistance, which was provided under the previous DMK government, will be deposited in the bank accounts of the beneficiaries on Friday.
