The Warner Bros. event attracted Pictures Animation on Tuesday featured filmmakers, creatives and journalists as team leaders presented their vision.
WBPA President and Chief Creative Officer Bill Damaszke hosted the open house at the Burbank studio, where he was joined by co-chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Entertainment. Motion Picture Group Pam Abdi to deliver opening remarks. The event is timed to take place in the lead-up to the studio’s showing at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival next month.
During her speech, Abdi touched on a number of projects that are in the production stage, including: The cat in the hatwith a Dr. Seuss film adaptation featuring Bill Hader in the titular role set to hit theaters in November. Abdi noted that this marks the animation studio’s first feature since its rebranding that began with Damascheki’s appointment in 2023. She explained that the film “sets the tone for what the WBPA stands for today: filmmaker-driven, visually ambitious and designed to be a true theatrical event.”
Abdi also expressed his happiness that the Annecy show will include the premiere of his film Warm season. The short from directors Todd Wilderman and Hamish Grieve focuses on Daffy Duck who learns that Elmer Fudd is newly obsessed with soccer, which is conveniently timed before the 2026 World Cup.
“We are also pleased to unveil it in Annecy Warm season“A Looney Tunes theatrical short that re-establishes our commitment to bringing Looney Tunes back to the big screen,” Abdi told the audience.
Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and other Looney Tunes favorites were last seen on the big screen in 2021 Space crowding: a new legacyWhich starred LeBron James and grossed $163 million at the global box office. Warner Bros. Starring John Cena in the Looney Tunes movie, Coyote vs. Peakwas scheduled to hit theaters in 2023, but after the film was completed, its release was cancelled. Ketchup Entertainment eventually acquired the Wile E. Coyote-focused project and will release it this summer.
Hollywood Reporter It was exclusively reported earlier this year that an animated film about Looney Tunes’ primary character Speedy Gonzalez was in the works at the studio from director Jorge R. Gutiérrez.
Abdi continued to express her excitement for upcoming original animated features such as the musical Bad fairiesStarring Cynthia Erivo, it is scheduled for release next year. Also on the horizon, led by Melissa McCarthy Margie Close Adapted by author Marissa Mayer Lunar records. Dynamic duo, Tom and Jerry, Meerkat Manor, Hello kitty and Oh, the places you’ll go! In his own remarks, Damascheki praised Abdi and his fellow Warner Bros. co-president. Mike De Luca for sticking to his plan. Describing the slate, which will see seven films hit the big screen over three years, Damaszky said: “Different looks, different styles, different tones – tied together with what I hope will be the heart, hope, humor and scale that wins the big screen and keeps the artist community first.”
