Laika fans got a treat at Cannes on Tuesday, when the studio was in the back Coraline and ParaNorman has unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming stop-motion feature Wildwood. The press event, held at the Hotel Martinez in Cannes, was the first look at the highly anticipated project, which has been in development since 2011 and in production since 2021. It will be the first Laika film to be released in the 2020s. (See Wildwood Trailer below).

Based on the book by Colin Meloy, illustrated by Carson Ellis, Wildwood It follows the adventures of two seventh graders who discover a magical world hidden in the woods outside their home in Portland, Oregon. After her little brother Mack is kidnapped by crows, stubborn teenager Prue McKell (voiced by Peyton Elizabeth Lee) launches a desperate rescue mission in the Enchanted Forest, joined by her loyal, if unlucky, classmate Curtis Melberg (Jacob Tremblay).

The trailer, set to the mournful sound of M83’s “My Tears are Becoming a Sea,” follows Preu and Curtis as they travel deep within the Impassable Wilderness to try to rescue Mac, encountering a world of magical creatures, talking animals, and bandits. The pair are drawn into a conflict that threatens the balance of the forest itself.
